This policy describes how Patagonia, Inc. and its parent, subsidiary, and affiliate companies (collectively, “Patagonia,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collect, use, and share information collected through the Patagonia Action Works website located at patagonia.com/actionworks (the “Site”).


How we collect and use information?

Through the Site we collect several types of information. One type of information includes personal information, such as your name, date of birth, postal address including zip code, phone number, or email address. We may collect this information when you provide it to use, such as when you contact one of the grassroots environmental organizations (“Grantees”) included on the Site, contact us with questions, or signup for alerts. We may also collect certain usage information from your browser or device when you visit the Site. This type of information may include IP address, location information, browser type, date and time of your visit, your activity on the Site, or a device identifier from a mobile device.

We may use the information we collect for a variety of purposes, including:

  • To customize, provide, and improve the Site;
  • For research and analytics purposes;
  • To communicate with you about the Site, as well as other environmental issues and environmental activism, alerts and campaigns;
  • To protect against fraud and other unlawful activity;
  • To facilitate your interactions with the Grantees listed on the Site, including donations to them; and
  • For purposes disclosed at the time we collect the information and with your consent.

We will never use your information collected from the Site to market you other Patagonia products.

 

How do we share information we collect?

We may share the information we collect through the Site for a variety of purposes, which may include:

    • With our service providers that help us provide the Site to you, including payment processors that facilitate donations and entities that help you connect with the Grantees and volunteer with them;
    • To perform analytics about how the Site are used;
    • With the Grantees listed on the Site to help them connect with you and communicate with you;
    • With our subsidiaries and affiliates to customize, provide and improve the Site;
    • Subject to a court order, subpoena, warrant, or other legal process;
    • As part of a sale or merger, including at bankruptcy, of the Site;
    • To protect our rights and the rights of third parties;
    • With the public if you post any information on the public portions of the Site; and

Links to third party websites and services.

The Site includes links to various third-party websites and services, such as to the Grantees included on the Site, our payment processor for donations to Grantees, social media, and others. This privacy policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to review the privacy policies of those sites to learn more about their practices.


Our use of cookies and other similar technology.

We may use “cookies,” “web beacons,” and other similar technologies to collect information in connection with the Site and our advertisements. A “cookie” is a computer file that acts as an identification card for your computer to distinguish your browser from others and enable us to serve you better. For example, we use cookies to learn about how you use the Site, preserve your customization of the Site, and to track the effectiveness of our marketing and advertising campaigns. Similarly, a “web beacon” is a technology that can recognize specific cookies and convey information about that browser. Your Choices.

    • Interest-Based Advertising
      We may partner with certain third-party advertising networks that collect information from the Site, as well as from other websites and mobile apps across the Internet over time, in order to deliver you with advertising relevant to environmental issues and environmental activism, alerts and campaigns on other websites, mobile apps, and browsers or devices associated with each other. This form of advertising is called interest-based advertising. For more information about interest-based advertising on your desktop and mobile browser, and your ability to opt out of this type of advertising from companies that participate in the Digital Advertising Alliance (“DAA”), you can visit here. To exercise choice on your mobile device, you can use the platform settings provided by your mobile device, such as “Limit Ad Tracking.” To limit the collection of precise location information from your mobile device, you can turn off location services in your device settings. If you exercise choice you will still receive advertising, but that advertising may be less relevant to your interests. Additionally, data may still be collected for purposes other than interest-based advertising, such as reporting and analytics.     • Emails
      You can opt-out of receiving promotional emails from us at any time by following the instructions provided in emails to unsubscribe, or emailing us at the email address provided below with the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject field of the email. Please note that you cannot opt-out of non-promotional emails.
    • Text Messages and Calls
      You can opt-out of receiving text messages or calls to your phone number at any time by (i) for text messages, texting ‘STOP’ in response to any text message you receive from us or contacting us as set out in the “Contact Us” section below and specifying you want to opt-out of text messages; and (ii) for calls, requesting opt-out during any call you receive from us or contacting us as set out in the “Contact Us” section below and specifying you want to opt-out of calls. Please note that your opt-out is limited to the email address, device, and phone number used and will not affect subsequent subscriptions.

Children.

The Site is not intended for the use of individuals under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect information online from individuals under the age of 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have collected such information, please contact us.


Safeguarding your PII.

We take reasonable physical, electronic, and administrative measures to help maintain the security of the information we collect. Nevertheless, transmission via the internet is not completely secure and we cannot guarantee the security of information about you.


International Transfer

We are based in the U.S. and the information we collect is governed by U.S. law. If you are accessing the Site from outside of the U.S., please be aware that information collected through the Site may be transferred to, processed, stored, and used in the U.S. and other jurisdictions. Data protection laws in the U.S. and other jurisdictions may be different from those of your country of residence.
